Boo Treats for MMS and Sister School Staff

10/21/2020 8:10 am

Because we all know our teachers are working harder than they ever have for our children, the PTA Staff Appreciation Committee would like to coordinate some extra little treats for them this year, aside from our normal monthly luncheons, and we need your help! Working together with our Sister School Committee on behalf of Landrum MS, we plan to create “Boo” Bags for the staff on both campuses (approx. 250 staff members) and are requesting candy donations.

Please click the Sign-Up Genius if you’d like to help!

All candy should be turned in to the collection box in the front office no later than October 23rd. Thank you for assisting us in this effort!

Chromebook Apps and Extensions

10/8/2020 11:05 am

Some students are downloading and installing 3rd party apps and extensions on their chromebooks. Third party apps and extensions are coded by anyone – including hackers – and are not district approved. They may also cause problems with the chromebooks when they get corrupted or because they can contain malware and/or viruses. Aside from the technical problems, some students are downloading browsers as a workaround to GoGuardian. Also, please remember that having these apps and extensions installed are a violation of the SBISD Student Device Loaner Agreement (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PCahzEZeIXgA5gSHzjcb5N1ta2DXcf2W) and may cause your child to lose their chromebook privileges. What you can do: We recommend you check your child’s apps and extensions and have him or her remove them if necessary. Games are the obvious candidates for removal. Some other extensions to look for are GB Browser, Leaf Browser, or Leaf Browser Alpha. If you would like to know how to see and remove extensions, here are some instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m3-3VvFBkM-M28DRWy3TsMWEIOuMnkruXOs9JULhKvs If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Fraser, the MMS Librarian.

Chromebooks for current virtual (soon to be on-campus) learners

10/8/2020 11:01 am

If your virtual learner does not currently have a district-provided chromebook and will need one if they are returning to campus on Oct 19th, you will need to complete the SBISD Student Device Loaner Agreement form. The librarian cannot issue a Chromebook without this agreement on file. You can complete and submit the agreement in Skyward, or print a copy (see attachment) and turn it in to the front office. You will also need to choose if you would like to purchase the optional $25 insurance. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Fraser, the MMS Librarian.

Sister School Clothing Drive

9/27/2020 11:30 am

In conjunction with the NJHS at MMS, the Sister School Committee is running another coat drive for Landrum Middle School/Kipp this fall. Some of the families have been displaced due to Covid, overall donations to CIS are down, and the schools do not have functioning PTA's. In addition to coats, they are also asking specifically for T-2-4 (the SBISD initiative for all graduates to go to trade school, 2 or 4 year college or into the military) clothing items - t-shirts, jackets and hoodies for students to wear to promote this at their schools. We will accept new or used items! There will be bins on the porches at our two off-site collection points: Rincon home: 11850 Durrette Drive 77024 -and- Romero home: 10938 Lasso Lane 77079 We appreciate anything you can do to help show some love to the students at our sister schools! Join the Sister School Community

9/21/2020 2:54 pm

Please consider being a part of the Sister School Committee!   Sister Schools is a district-wide program where schools without functioning PTA's are adopted.  Memorial Middle's Sister Schools are Landrum Middle/Kipp Courage.  We work to support these schools by teacher appreciation efforts, coat and supply drives and any other needs that may arise during this most unprecedented time... our committee stands in the gap for our Sister Schools!  The sign-up genius link is below.  Please contact me with any questions. Thank you!!
